How do I know that Internet spam
Internet Spam?
Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message in an attempt to force the message to people who otherwise would not ask him. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender very little to send – most of the costs paid by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.
There are two main types of spam, and have different effects on Internet users. Cancelable Usenet spam is a single message sent to 20 or more Usenet newsgroups. (Through long experience, Usenet users have noticed that all messages sent to many newsgroups is often not relevant to most or all of them). Usenet spam is aimed at “spectator”, people who read newsgroups but rarely or never post and give their address away. Usenet spam robs users of the utility of the newsgroups by overwhelming with a barrage of advertising or other irrelevant messages. Furthermore, Usenet spam undermines the ability of system administrators and owners to address the issues that accept their systems.
Spam targets individual users with direct mail messages. Spam lists are often created by advertising on Usenet, stealing Internet mailing lists, or search the Web for addresses. Spamming usually costs using money from his pocket to receive. Many people – anyone with measured phone – read or receive their mail while the meter is running, so to speak. Spam costs them additional money. In addition, it costs money for ISPs and online services to send spam, and these costs are transmitted directly to subscribers.
One particularly nasty variant of spam is sending spam to mailing lists (public or private discussion forums via email.) Because many mailing lists limit activity to their subscribers, spammers who use automated tools to subscribe to mailing lists as possible, so you can contain lists of addresses or use e-mail list as a direct target for their attacks.
Why is spam bad?
There are several reasons:
The free ride. Spam is one in which the recipient pays a lot more to it than the sender. For example, AOL said that they got 1st 8 million spams from Cyber Promotions per day until he got a court order to stop it. Provided that require the typical AOL user only 10 seconds to identify and discard a message, which is still 5,000 hours per day, connect time per day spent throwing spam, just on AOL. In contrast, the spammer probably a T1 line that costs approximately $ 100/day. No other type of advertising costs the advertiser so little, and both receivers. The closest analogy I think would be predictive dialing the desired phone calls to mobile phone users (in the U.S., cell phone users pay to receive and to make any calls), can you imagine how good that can be received.
“ The sea spam”problema. Many spam messages say “ please send a message AWAY down our list. ”Even without regard to the question of why we should do something to get a list that never asked to go, this becomes impossible if the volume grows. For now, most of us get very few spams per day. But what if only 1 / 10 of 1% of Internet users have decided to send spam at a moderate pace with 100.000 per day, a rate easily achievable with a dial-up account and a computer. Then everyone would get 100 spams each day. About 1% of users were spamming at this rate, we would all be getting 1000 spams per day. Is it reasonable to ask people to send messages a day “ 100”eliminar? Hardly. If spam grows, will crowd our mailboxes to the point that they are not useful for real mail. Users of AOL, which has many problems with spammers, progress is already at this point.
Theft of resources. A growing number of spammers, such as quantum mechanics message, send most or all of their mail via innocent intermediate systems, to avoid blocks that many systems have placed against mail coming directly from the spammers’ systems. (Because of a landmark Court, most email systems in Internet mail that is sent to everyone, not just their own users.) This fills the intermediate systems, networks and disks with unwanted spam, takes management time dealing with all spam messages are delivered, and subjects them to complaints from recipients who concluded that, since the intermediate system delivered the mail, which must be in cahoots with spammers.
Many other spammers use “ hit and run”correo garbage on the line to get a test account to an ISP for a few days, send tens of thousands of messages, and abandon the account (unless the supplier Ad what you’re doing and cancels the first time), leaving the unsuspecting seller to clean up the mess. Many spammers have tens or hundreds of times, forcing suppliers to waste time staff, both cleaning and testing of trial accounts for abuse.
It’s all rubbish. Spam messages I’ve seen, almost without exception, have announced things that are worthless, misleading and, in part or entirely false. (I include here many MLMs, though MLM-ers rarely understand why there is no such thing as a good MLM.) Software is spam, fashion miracle cures, not brand computer parts, vaguely described get rich quick schemes, dial-a-porn, and so on down from there. It is material that is too disgusting to be worth advertising in any environment where we really have to pay the cost of the ads. Since the cost of spamming is so low, it makes no sense to target your ads, then for the same price you can send messages to all, increasing the noise level from the rest of us have to deal with.
They are thieves. Antispam software always comes with a list of names falsely of people have said they want to receive ads, but actually contains the victims do not want to sacrifice the chance to Usenet or mailing lists. Antispam software often promises to run on your computer from a supplier in a way that will be difficult for the provider to detect so that they can not tell what the spammer is doing. Spams are always saying that they will remove the names of the request, but almost never does. In fact, people report that when they send a test request for a “ created eliminar”la account, usually begins to receive spam to that address.
Spammers know that people do not want to know about them, and generally put up fake return addresses on their messages so that they can not bear the cost of get answers from people who have sent messages. Whenever possible, using the “ desechables”juicio ISP accounts mentioned above so the ISP has the cost of cleaning up after them. I could go on, but the idea. It’s hard to think of another industry in which the general ethical level is so low.
It may be illegal. Some types of spam are illegal in some countries on the Internet. Especially with pornography, mere possession of such material can be enough to put the receiver in prison. In the United States is extremely child pornography illegal and we have seen offers Kiddie porn spam.
Spammers do more than spam
Besides all the bad things that spammers do to your mailbox and Usenet, they are also dishonest and unethical. Spammers have been documented theft of the domain name from another site through forgery – both free and concentric net response was affected in this way. In fact, foreign net really attacked by a spammer such.
September 12, 2001 – spammers obtaining donations for the families of the victims of the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. We in the spam. abuse. net do not think any of these relatives to see some of this money.
Spammers have a new trick – which delivers a phone number on the high seas that are supposed to call delete. The call costs $ 2 per minute. Sometimes they play a tape of directing people to the Cauca, in what appears to be an attempt to discredit us.
A trick of spammers trying to create a fake anti-spam sites, or to falsify e-mail anti-spam organizations such as the Cauca. Cauca, or as an organization, not against spammers, as individuals, seek or accept donations of money or other consideration. Another spent only the falsification of this type is to use a disposable or invalid email address. If you see an alleged fight against spam, or a site that asks for money, is a forgery. Tell your next anti-spam.
Spammers are your customers. For example, argued quantum communications to the mass music an innocent customer who had sent an email to people who had requested to receive information about new products and services, not thousands of spam recipients do not want. Now thousands of music, lot of new enemies, who will never buy from them when he was released, due to distortion of Quantum.
Another, similar, this is to sell someone a mailing list to tell them that people who want to advertise in the e-mail. Typically, the list of the same old lists of spam that has been in existence for five years. There are very few lists of persons registered on the ads, but are small, targeted, ANOT not cheap. A long list that is intended to give people who want to have some type of advertising via e-mail is a fraud.
Spammers fool even their suppliers. A number of ISPs have admitted that many or most spammers never pay for their services. This is especially true with spammers who use the trial period accounts with a vendor to send their sick. It is obvious in cases where they did not intend to pay.
Moreover, the “Global Communications” 809 sample telephone fraud, the men and thieves seek to massive spamming as a means to commit their crimes. For more information on frauds and scams.
Spam contest Scamsters are wrong “hits” as well. When one of them was called in, the subscription bombed the person who did it.
Someone recently sent me a spam offer. They claimed that they had a list of high profile clients, including The New York Times, sent me back to the times and got a call in the morning, not only denies access to the spammer, but let me know that they had ordered the spammer to stop use the name The Times in its advertising.
