Let’s Talk About Spam
Have you found that when you are tense about something, tired, hungry and stressed, they tend, very easy to overreact at times? I got a nasty email the other day accusing me of spam to that person (who had subscribed / opted for my e-zine, by the way). He was obviously having a bad day and had lost perspective on spam. I sent him a message which he thought I would share with you, just so we can keep the perspective in these days work.
First, I have received over 360 spam emails per day. It is the price one pays for a strong presence on the Internet, I guess. I do not use a spam filter, because it costs me money in the past by blocking important e-mail. (Spam filter has no brains, looks are just robots.) Here’s the Thing – makes me a total of 12 minutes to eliminate spam, but I will save hours each day via the Internet and e-mail. Twelve minutes. Consider this in perspective. How long to wait for your meal in a restaurant? How much time do you commute? Do not spend hours attacking spammers – I played just “delete” and move on.
Although the rates are no different from spam – useful, informative and provides valuable information on the one hand, and poor quality porn and scam artists on the other. Either way, it takes two seconds to delete. So when you look at the real time use in relation to the benefits, why people react so violently to what they perceive as junk? Why the threat and therefore takes much longer to write to the spammer “instead of taking two seconds to delete the e-mail? Is there something else going on here?
There is the rub! The real reason, I suspect, why people get so mad at some spam e mails, are you pushed buttons. Something in the e-mail, I remember something about themselves that they are dissatisfied. They look in the mirror, do not like what they see, and break the mirror. “You can break the wave, but will still be fat.” They shoot the messenger when the message is a bit too close to the truth. Rather than retreat and wonder, “Why such a violent reaction? Is there a message here for me and what I learn from this?” Attack. Anger often comes from fear. Maybe we should start reading some of the really annoying e-mail.
There is a radio station here to recite the worst form of socialism, the fight against collectivism establishment and everything that is directly against my philosophy. And I love to listen to it. I learn a lot. It is my view, corrects some of my assumptions and reinforce each other. There are some very smart people in the program – much smarter than me! Maybe we should be less threatened and more open-minded about spam and see the positive side of this fantastic, save time, or e-mail.
